An elegant and relatively rare shrub with slightly spreading branches and dark green leaves that turn yellowish-green to reddish in autumn. Small, inconspicuous flowers appear in late spring, followed by decorative fruits (inedible) with orange seeds, giving the plant a seasonal accent. Undemanding and hardy, grows well in fertile, sufficiently moist, but well-drained soil.
