A graceful and versatile maple that grows as a large shrub or small tree with an open, upright crown of branches that becomes wider and airier with age. The delicate branches give the silhouette a softness.
The young shoots turn reddish-brown in the sun, but gray in the shade, and over time they turn from light brown to gray-brown. A very hardy plant, well-tolerant of frost, wind, heat, urban pollution and open spaces.
