The elegant Japanese maple grows as a large multi-trunk small tree, with a crown often as wide as it is tall. The finely grooved, palmately divided leaves, usually with five to seven slender tips, provide a fine texture throughout the season, and turn warm brownish-red to orange-red in autumn.
It grows best in moist, humus-rich, well-drained soil and partial shade, but it also tolerates sunny locations and is a sophisticated accent in gardens and parks. We recommend choosing the fan maple for gardens in the central and western climate zones of Latvia.
