SENSE OF FOREST GARDEN

YEAR: 2020 – 2023

PLACE: MĀRUPE

AREA: 3000 M2

DESIGN: RUTA GABRANOVA, ANSIS BIRZNIEKS

The garden's magic lies in the close interaction between people, the garden, and nature. At its core is the owner's reverence for the existing flora and fauna on the property, which occupies nearly one-third of the garden. During the design and installation process, every tree, shrub, stump, and patch of lingonberries was carefully noticed, preserved, and maintained whenever possible. The main goal is the harmonious coexistence of humans and nature.

Although much of the garden is dominated by natural vegetation, it also features several distinct mood zones.

Given that the greatest human impact is felt around the house and slightly around the sauna, which emerged during the construction process, beautiful, flowering, and changing beds have been created around these areas with carefully selected plant varieties.

On the sunny side, perennials in shades of violet and blue are combined with airy grasses and accents of serviceberry (Amelanchier lamarckii). In the shade, lushly blooming perennials and grasses mingle with groups of rhododendrons and hydrangeas, creating a blend with woodland moods.

In the sunny front garden, wildflower meadows thrive, creating an impressive contrast with the beautifully manicured lawn, especially during the summer months.

A delicate network of winding paths invites visitors deeper into the garden. These paths lead through a carpet of lingonberries and pine groves, culminating in a small fire pit area nestled in the heart of the garden. From this spot, one can enjoy a peaceful view of the entire garden ensemble. Not only does the fire pit offer a complete perspective of the garden, but it also provides beautiful vistas from the house and sauna terraces, which overlook the garden's natural section framed by a backdrop of spruce trees.

Each garden is unique, with its own character, much like its owners. In a way, the garden is a reflection of its owners. Here, it mirrors a respectful interaction between nature and humanity.
